How to Transfer Images off Camera

Silly Question but...How do I transfer my pictures from my filled CF Card to a computer? Without using a Card Reader? I don't see any mention in the canon manual anywhere on how to do this..am I missing something??

If you do not have a card reader, you can
use the "EOS Viewer Utility" program which comes on the "Digital Solutions" disk that comes with the camera.
This works reasonably well and also allows you to remotely control the camera and do conversions from RAW to JPG and TIFF, so it's worth putting that program on your computer.
You may also want to install Canon Digital Photo Professional to use in doing RAW to JPG or TIFF conversions too.
But the best solution in the long run is to get a card reader because it is a bit more convenient, in my opinion, than using EVU to unload the camera.
I generally don't find the software that comes with digital cameras to be worth installing on my PCs, but in this case, EVU and DPP are both quite valuable.
The manual that comes with the "Digital Solutions" disk has instructions for using EVU to copy files to your PC. It's a bit cumbersome, but it'll do the job until you get a card reader.
Good luck and happy shooting!

With a Mac, plug in the USB cable, and iPhoto will start up automatically and offer to download the photos for you. No need to use the Canon s/w at all.

Re: How to Transfer Images off Camera
Hi,
After I installed the EOS DIigital Software that came with my 20D I was able to use Windows Explorer to transfer files. The camera did appear as another drive on My Computer. I use Win XP.
Regards,
Eric
Card readers are cheap & convenient.
I'd suggest you pick up one.

Canon 2oD, Canon Gee3, and Canon S7o.
I keep trying to find an artist's eye in the B & H catalog

Re: Card readers are cheap & convenient.
On 20D you can set communication to PTP. After this step you would be able to transfer images without any additional software in windows XP. You'll see Camera icon when you double click on my computer.
What the above post said.. and
I just use the USB cable that it came with and it works automatically with my windows XP.

As I said, go to menu, set communication mode to PTP and connect camera to your computer. Then Double click on my computer. You'll see your camera icon. Then You can double click on it:) Ths works with XP.
